Getting the Most from Your Roofing Contractor in Leicestershire

posted on 27 April 2012

There is nothing worse than a leaking roof except paying to have one repaired or replaced. No matter what kind of roof you have it is still expensive to replace or to repair. When you contact a roofing company in Leicestershire be sure to ask for references so you can say what kind of work he does. When you're investing this much money in your home you want it done right and not have to be repaired over and over again. When you contact a roofing company in nuneaton my suggestion is to contact several to come out and inspect the roof and then give you an estimate. Do not always go by the estimate without checking his references since there is an old saying you get what you pay for. First check out some of the work he has done that is where you make your biggest decision since quality comes first because a bad looking roof can really hurt the value of your home not to mention you may end up with leaks again.

Cleaning Up After A Party Isn't As Fun As Throwing One

posted on 27 November 2011

Most teenagers don’t like to clean, and neither do I, so when I was forced to because of my sisters it was a really new experience. I'd done all kinds of jobs in the past - from oil tank installation to cleaning diesel tanks, but the thought of cleaning up after a party seemed a lot less appealing than the toughest of paid jobs I'd done in the past. Our parents had left for the weekend to spend another anniversary together, of course we didn’t mind, they deserved it and had taught us to take care of ourselves should the need ever arrive. Honestly, my plans for the weekend home were quite modest, I’d have greatly appreciated the quiet few days to write some poetry and do some song writing. It turns out my sisters and I didn’t share similar ideals, and without even consulting me, the eldest, they had a party. I awoke from my Saturday afternoon nap to hear music downstairs, and smell fast food saturating the air. I had never before seen so many people in my house, and they all had little to know care for their surrounding. Soda was being spilled, cheese and other toppings from the pizza was falling on the floor. There were crackers on the coffee table and between the couch pillows, and for a moment it was as if I assumed the mindset of my father. Enraged I unplugged the stereo and asked everyone to leave, as humiliated and infuriated my sisters were they dared not to whisper a word seeing the state of the house when everyone left. So we started cleaning, the best way we knew how to, which wasn’t very well... We fumbled with the mop, and swept more things into the air than into the pan. I’ll admit I had never really experienced the scent of any cleaning solution besides soap, so that started me sneezing uncontrollably so my sisters had to do most of the work afterwards. That night we even had to repaint the corridors from all the stubborn hand prints and unclog the sink!

Safety Apparently Not a Top Priority Where I Used to Work

posted on 20 November 2011

The worst part of health and safety in the work place is when people get complacent, just because some of the safety risks have been identified doesn't mean that all of them have. Just because you wear PPE clothing, it doesn't automatically make you safe (for example). This happened to our team at the last place I worked. Some members of the team decided that just because something wasn't mention in the health and safety guide meant that it was perfectly safe to do. Obviously this wasn't the case and because they did not pay especial attention to the risks. One of the team lost his finger. Using a knife with your eyes closed wasn't mentioned in the safety guide, however common sense should have suggested that while it wasn't mentioned it was a very silly thing to do, unfortunately it was the person holding the cheese that lost their finger opposed to the person doing the cutting. The person doing the cutting felt especially guilty as the victim had previously lost another finger in a similar accident with a chainsaw.

My Spectacular Enclosed Front Porch Transformation

posted on 2 November 2011

If I had the budget, I would definitely transform my enclosed front porch into something that would be usable year round. I have an assortment of tools, including slab saws to help me if I am to do this by myself. I have a house that is about 100 years old. It has been remodeled in various facets over the years, however, the front porch needs a makeover. The windows are the first thing that needs to go being that they are very thin glass and no insulation. I would love to take out all 7 windows and drop the ceiling down approximately 2 feet. I would expand the front porch further out to the street to allow more space for everyday use. Insulation would need installed and definitely energy efficient windows would need installed. Heating would be a necessity being that I live in the Great Lakes area and winters can be brutally cold in January and February especially. I would finish the makeover installing a carpet that would be warm yet easy to clean in the summer.

My Bathroom: Desperately in Need of a Revamp

posted on 18 October 2011

If there is one thing in my house that needs changing it is my bathroom. We refitted the kitchen out of necessity as soon as we moved in but didn’t have the money to upgrade the bathroom as well. The people who lived here previously didn’t look after it at all well and it looks older and shabbier than it actually is! It doesn’t help that the suite is in a colour which was once described as Champagne but is now simply dingy and yellow. The flooring must go and even some plastering is required on the walls. The curtains could do with replacing too - at the moment they're tied together with make-shift velcro straps. The ceiling is covered in artex and needs to be replaced. The only thing that is in good working order is the immersion heater in the cupboard. The problem with having this work done is twofold. Finding the money to do the work and finding reputable plumbers who can turn their hand to nearly everything without charging the earth. It will make a huge difference to the rest of the house, and lift my spirits enormously when eventually we have the work completed.

What You Should Know About Steel Commercial Buildings

posted on 2 May 2011

Commercial buildings are built for a lot of purposes. They are often used as production houses, factories, storage places and other purposes for the operations of a business enterprise. For this reason commercial buildings must be designed to be dimensionally and electrically safe, and non-combustible. Steel is the perfect material for buildings made for commercial purposes. Steel commercial buildings are more durable and efficient than commercial buildings made of conventional construction materials. Steel can be combined with other materials for aesthetic purposes. You can ask your contractor to customize your steel building to meet all the standards of local building codes like wind, snow, exposure and seismic ratings. The cost to construct a steel building is half of what it will cost if traditional materials are used. It also takes less time to construct so you can finish your project at the soonest time and immediately get your business operations started. If in due time your business needs to expand, it’s not difficult to build an extension for your space with a building made out of steel.
